Yesterday (3-2 or 3rd February) was a very special day for the Nissan R32 owners as the auspicious date tallies with their beloved car’s series number (“32”). We had the chance to cover Malaysia’s very own NSF-R32 group for their annual trackday held down south at the Malacca International Motorsport Circuit (MIMC). As it was held in Melaka, it meant one thing for us KL-ites; ROADTRIP!
A total of 14 R32s came to the event which was scorching hot. The perfect weather for you to go through a set of brand new rubbers while lapping the 1.6km circuit. The MIMC track is a tight and technical circuit which might be a bit too small for the likes of these R32s. Nevertheless, they had fun doing drifts and such throughout the tight and twisty turns.
The turnout for the event was excellent with some drivers bringing their friends and families along for the day. Abang Din was also present despite the fact he was down with dengue. Also in attendance was Peck; who was winner of the JDM category during our recent Speed Junkies autoshow event, being the favourite choice of our judge Remus Supremus from Motorsport Playground. A total of four R34 owners also joined in on the fun and managed to put in a few laps in their machines.
There were a few technical problems and breakdown on the circuit as Faiz’s 620hp R32 suffered a suspected conrod problem and Rei Herold falling victim to a burned out clutch. Despite these minor speed bumps, all R32 owners managed to squeeze out ample amounts of fun from their trackday session. We also managed to give out special goodie bags to the participants to ensure they have something to bring back as a token for the day.
It was a road-trip well spent and we enjoyed the spirit displayed by this passionate group of R32 owners. We hope to see more of these events as it really shows how much fun a group of car guys can have. Till we meet again!
