Tedco Racing: Malaysia Championship Series 2017 – Round 1
The 2017 season of the Malaysia Championship Series just kicked off last weekend with two races; Race 1 on a Saturday and a Race 2 on a Sunday.
It was a blistering hot weekend as track temperatures were a scorching 56 degrees Celsius. The qualifying practice on Friday saw a good mix of rain and sun causing the race teams to scramble between wet and dry setups to tackle both track conditions.
We were in the pits with Tedco Racing watching them prep their cars for the upcoming race. Our drivers today were Mark Darwin and YS Lim who were driving for CPK Racing in the FD2R (#33) built by Tedco Racing, and Nick Mah, driving the camo Suzuki Swift (#76).
The Darwin-Lim duo managed a P7 position for the Touring Production (TP) category while the camo Swift managed a pole position at the beginning of the race for the Malaysian Touring Car (MTC) category.
Race 1 was quite a challenge for them as the safety car was deployed for a few laps before the race could continue. Their FD2R managed to jump a few spots once the race was cleared by the safety car. You could see the dedication displayed by the pit crew to ensure that the cars were in their top form before and during the race.
The completion of Race 2 saw the first podium for car #33 by CPK Racing’s FD2R, thanks to Mark Darwin and YS Lim. The Swift driven by Nick Mah clinched two wins under the belt for the team despite various challenges and hurdles faced out on the track.
Round 2 of the MCS 2017 will be between 5-9th April, so stay tuned for more action on the track!
