Toyota Cresta X100, Sedate Sleeper Sedan.

At Mcclubz, we are always on the lookout for unique, exotic cars that display the ultimate bond between Man and Machine. In our recent years as automotive enthusiasts ourselves, we have come across many people and many builds that truly show this bond, it’s something that is built overtime through hard work and determination.


What we have today is something you don’t really see much on Malaysian roads. Meet Tim, the owner of this white, pristine Toyota Cresta X100 Series. Prior to owning his prized possession, Tim was in the market looking for a Toyota Mark X. Having already owned a Toyota lx80 Cressida, Tim was very satisfied with the quality and comfort offered by Toyota and chanced upon a Toyota Cresta that was not for sale. Being determined to own another 1JZ powered sedan, Tim managed hunt down the owner and coax him into selling his car, and was willing to pay a premium to make it his. At the end of the day, Tim successfully managed to purchase the sought after Cresta, but also believes he (over)paid too much for the car. Things car guys do to get what they want!

So back to the car, the Toyota Cresta is a 4-door sedan built by Toyota, a brand that is heavily associated with practicality, durability, economy and comfort. This particular Cresta is an X100 series, which ran from 1996 to 2001. It shares the same chassis with the Mark ii and the Chaser, but offered a higher level of luxury if compared to it’s sibling the MarkII and Chaser, which was a more performance oriented machine if compared to the Cresta.

The car, although looking like a sedate sedan, is powered by a single-turbo inline-6 1JZ-GTE VVTi engine which sends its powers to the rear wheels via a R154 5 speed manual transmission. Cooling of force-induced air is achieved by a Blitz front mounted intercooler. In its stock form, the engine produces 206 kW, or 276 HP at 6200 RPM and 363 nM of torque at 4800 RPM. This particular car comes with a TRD 2-way LSD with custom rear differential PU bushings. Bringing all this power to a stop are Lexus LS400 UCF10 4-pot brake caliper brakes with slotted rotors, complete with Goodridge steel braided brake hose to ensure no brake fade during heavy and continuous braking.

In the handling department, Tim has Final Konnexion monotube absorbers complemented with a Cusco adjustable upper camber arm and Superpro lower arm bushings. Both ends are using TRD anti-roll bars to minimize body roll during tight corners. 18-inch, 9.5 jj CST Hyper Zero wheels, shod with Bridgestone Adrenalin RE003 are found at all four corners of the car and offers the ideal stance and fitment that Tim was looking for. Creature comfort items that Tim has installed include an ARK Design multi-function display, complete with a Nardi deep dish steering wheel and Recaro SR3 seats to keep him planted in the driver’s seat.

Yes, the car does mean business when you consider what it’s made of. We believe that Tim has done a lot of work in maintaining and driving his beloved Toyota Cresta and it will definitely see more miles with Tim’s dedication and passion.
